Promoting agricultural practices that contribute to sustainable food systems.
The Project « Promoting Agricultural Practices That Contribute to Sustainable Food Systems » aims to strengthen food security and promote agroecology in five provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kasaï-Oriental, Lomami, Sud-Ubangi, Sud-Kivu and Tshopo). In collaboration with Enabel and Humundi, It is part of the as part of Pillar 3 of the DRC-Belgium bilateral cooperation portfolio (2023–2027), with an emphasis on sustainable and economically viable agriculture to address climate and social challenges.
Activities include the production of multimedia content (6 documentary films and 6 podcasts in 3 local languages), campaigns to raising awareness through 50 film screenings and discussions and the AlimenTerre Festival, as well as targeted advocacy efforts to influence decision-makers and support the agroecological transition.
Thanks to a inclusive and participatory approach, the project raises awareness both directly and indirectly 50,000 people, promotes 12 agroecological practices, and mobilizes farmers' federations representing 500,000 members of the National Confederation of Agricultural Producers of Congo (CONAPAC). With a focus on the economic, institutional, and environmental sustainability, this project aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of equitable food systems and strengthen the resilience of rural communities, and promote agricultural practices that respect the soil, water, and biodiversity.
